COVID 19: FG Inducts Committee For Creative Industry Palliatives
Nigeria’s creative industry is the second major creator of employment in the country after agriculture.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, launched the Committee for the implementation of COVID-19 palliatives to Nigeria’s creative industry, with the aim of designing a plan to boost productivity in the sector during and after the pandemic.
This was announced in a statement signed by the Special Assistant To the President (Media) Office of the Minister of Information, Segun Adeyemi.
Nairametrics in a report revealed the statement disclosed that the Minister inaugurated the committee via a teleconference in Abuja. He also specified that the duties of the Committee are to design an implementation plan on the immediate and short-term relief for the Creative Industry, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister added that the Committee would also design a Policy Framework for Tax Relief for the various sectors in the Creative Industry, if it is identified as one of the measures that could achieve immediate and short-term relief for the Industry. More so, a detailed plan for a long term intervention for the overall development of the Creative industry in Nigeria would also be created.
The Minister noted that Nigeria’s creative industry is the second major creator of employment in the country after agriculture. He urge the committee to “approach its assignment with a great sense of duty, as the development and growth of the Creative Industry are crucial to the nation’s economy.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Implementation Committee and the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe, has assured that the Committee will design robust recommendations that would benefit Nigeria’s creative industry.
Other members of the Committee include Ali Baba (Deputy Chairman); Anita Eboigbe; Baba Agba and Joe Mutah (Secretary) and the Committee has been given a total of 6 weeks to submit a report to the Minister.
